How Izod Impact Testing machine and Impact Test is work?
There are two types of tests to measure the impact value of
a material, one is the IZOD
impact testing and the other is the Charpy Impact Test. Both the tests work
on the same principle yet provide their results at different levels. Many
industries use test methods to analyze physical strength. These tests
accurately assess the amount of energy required or absorbed by the specimen
when a loaded pendulum or hammer strikes them. The calculated energy provides
accurate information by measuring the hardness of the sample. These test
machines work on pendulum principle.
Performing
the Izod Impact testing and Impact Test-
Both the test machines are explained, showing how they
work. The IZOD test method follows a V-notch where the specimen is held in a
vertical position. In this test method, the hammer or pendulum strikes the
upper end of the sample. On the other hand, the Impact
Test method follows both a U-notch and a V-notch with the horizontal
position of the specimen. In this test method, the hammer strikes the sample at
the point of the mark but in the opposite direction. The notch in the Impact
Test is located away from the striker.
